Happy Canada Day! Opened on July 1st, 2017 to celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday, Canadian History Hall explores our past as the signature permanent installation of the Canadian Museum of History (formerly the Museum of Civilization).
The feature ramp, with structural design by Adjeleian Allen Rubeli, guides patrons through the main atrium. This challenging fit-up element has continuously varying geometry, and required a robust, stiff structure to practically eliminate noise and vibrations – as expected in a museum environment. The ramp cantilevers off the existing structure for much of its length, so particular attention was needed to ensure the new loading could be supported by the existing framing of the museum.
